About Us
The Department of Haematology and Immunology
The Department of Haematology and Immunology stands at the forefront of medical education, dedicated to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.
Haematology is the study of blood, focusing primarily on the diagnosis and management of blood disorders. Immunology is the study of the structure and function of the cells, tissues and organs of the immune system and associated disorders.
Haematology is an important aspect of medicine because changes in the blood usually accompany diseases of various organs and tissues of the body. In addition, the status of the blood often affects treatment options and outcomes for other diseases. Similarly, abnormalities of the immune system may lead to diseases in other parts of the body while diseases of other systems may adversely affect the immune system.
The Department provides a vibrant academic community, where the thirst for knowledge meets compassion, and where rigorous scientific inquiry is balanced with a commitment to patient care. The faculty members provide clinical consultation services at the Department of haematology and Blood Transfusion, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.
